Labour Selects Luke Pollard to Fight Tory Streeter
South West Devon Labour Party has selected their Parliamentary candidate to fight the next General Election. Local candidate Luke Pollard
was selected by the constituency on a platform of championing local issues and holding the Tory councils in Plymouth and the South Hams to account. Luke wants to hit the ground running and is
ready for the election.
Luke Pollard, Labour’s candidate in South West Devon said:
"I feel very privileged to have been selected to stand for Labour in my home seat. I am proud of Labour's record locally of fighting for more affordable
homes for local people, in tackling anti-social behaviour and giving a voice for residents who feel let down by the Tory councils in Plymouth and the South Hams. It is time that the people who have
been let down by complacency are given a strong voice in Parliament and over the coming weeks I am going to be speaking to voters listening to their concerns and fighting their corner. I am
ready to take on David Cameron's Conservatives at the next election whenever it is called."
I look forward to holding the Tories to account for their broken promises giving a voice for the people of
South West Devon. With the Liberal Democrats all but absent on the local political scene Labour is the real opposition locally and I pledge to champion the views of South West Devon residents
between now and the election. The number one priority in this area is housing and I have already had discussions with Plymouth's Labour Councillors to ensure that
local people's views on new developments like Sherford are listened to and not ignored by the Tory Council. We have a real challenge in South West Devon to provide enough decent quality homes for
our community and I am proud to stand on a Labour platform that puts housing our families at the top of the agenda."
South West Devon Constituency Chair and Plymouth City Councillor Sue Dann said, "We are delighted to have a local candidate of
Luke's calibre and experience. We are now ready to take the fight to the Tories and Liberal Democrats as soon as the General Election is announced."
