   Care Green Paper Discussion

31 October 2009 - Baroness Royall hosts Care Green Paper Discussion

Cabinet Minister, Baroness Royall, visited Plymouth today to co-host an event with Linda Gilroy MP on the Care Green Paper. Jan Royall is the Leader of the House of Lords and has been touring the south west to discuss the Government's proposals to create a National Care Service with local people.

Above, video of the care event discussion hosed by the Co-operative Party in Plymouth that was attended by 50 people who discussed proposals in the Care Green Paper. The event was kindly hosed by the Co-op Party in the Lower Guildhall in Plymouth.

Linda Gilroy MP said: "This morning we've been talking about how to get the right future provision for care for adults over 18 who need support and care for people in retirement when they come to need support. There are some thorny questions over how to pay for it but after today's event I'm certain the voices of Plymouth will be heard in this consultation."

Luke Pollard, Labour's Prospective Candidate in South West Devon, said: "There are literally thousands of people in our city who care for friends and relatives. The proposals in this green paper ask how we can build a care system in this country that is not only fairly funded, supports carers but also gives those receiving care true dignity and the flexible support they need. It is a really difficult topic, especially when you consider how the care system is to be paid for in the future but it is really important that these issues are debated.
