Manifesto 2008

Labour Launches Election Manifesto 2008 Candidates

Plymouth Labour Party has launched its 2008 Council Election Manifesto, “On Your Side”.  It promises economic growth and prosperity, safer and cleaner streets and play areas, reducing bureaucracy  and a fundamental improvement in the quality of life for the people of Plymouth. Central within the manifesto is a claim that the past year of Tory administration of the Council has been a wasted year for Plymouth, Council tax has been increased to the highest level in 5 years. With £21 Million of cuts in services amounting to around £200 per household, this is a double whammy in anyone’s language. The Tory slogan must be, “Paying More, Getting Less”

Labour will build partnerships with employers and businesses to provide jobs and security.  Environmental improvements include plans to make Plymouth a plastic bag free City. Where the Tories have presided over a year of stagnation, the Labour Party will introduce this much needed improvement well ahead of the legislation that requires it. Labour will promote and introduce green energy solutions that will include opposing the Tories’ plans for a waste incinerator at Ernesettle. Education and Leisure Provision will be at the heart of Labour’s plans for Plymouth’s Communities. Leading sports clubs will be helped and supported. Young people will be engaged in useful activities. Labour will work alongside our young people to help them to socialise and develop their fullest potentials safely.Labour, unlike the Tories, will run an efficient Council, providing value for money, eliminate waste and spend on essential frontline services. Labour will promote more affordable part-rent, part-buy new homes and will support the “Warm Homes Initiative” to help our vulnerable people to save money on their energy bills. Consultation will be held with tenants and leaseholders on the future of Council Housing.
