Labour opposes Tory plans to cut level of affordable housing in new developments

Labour members from across Plymouth have been asking local people in the City to sign a petition opposing changes to planning policy in the City that would meand developers are allowed to remove the obligation to build social housing in new developments.

Luke Pollard, Labour's PPC in SW Devon said: "At a time when people are finding getting onto the property ladder so difficult it seems strange that the Tory response locally is to further reduce the amount of affordable homes to rent and buy in the City."

Cllr Tudor Evans, Leader of Plymouth's Labour Group said: "If the Tory Council wants to help people onto the property ladder in the first instance they need to be increasing the supply fo affordable homes. This won't be done by simply encouraging the building of more luxury flats in the City Centre. I urge the Council to think again about this policy."
