Plymstock Wind Turbines Campaign Update

28 March 2009

Coombe Dean School now has its wind turbines generating clean, green power and acting as an example to students after Conservative objections to the scheme were overturned by a Government planning inspector. Tory Councillors had voted down the original proposal by the school for two wind turbines that would generate a quarter of the school's electricity. Labour supported the application.

Luke Pollard, Labour's Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for SW Devon said: "I was proud to support the school's plans for two wind turbines. The school should be commended for being so forward thinking. Not only are the school's energy bills going to be cut meaning more money for books and computers but it also shows every student at the school that clean, green power is something they can generate. Climate Change is real and more schools and public buildings should follow Coombe Dean's lead. Shame on the Tories for opposing the wind turbines."
